Enter the artists libraries
This project uses new technologies to explore an often-overlooked type of archive: artist libraries during the 19th and 20th centuries. These archives are key to a more comprehensive understanding of artists’ works, as well as the creative processes underlying them. Browsing an artist’s own collection of books, magazines, catalogs and illustrations allows us to dive deeper into his life beyond the paintbrush by revealing the very cultural fabric that sustained his work.
This website dedicated to the study of artist libraries offers a variety of resources: lists of books and their digitized versions; a regularly updated inventory of library collections library collections via an interactive map; methodological tools and instruments methodological tools and instruments to better analyze these resources; and “Focus on" to examine these collections in a new and original way.
